July 4 here in London, sun is shining, the birds are singing, I feel good! Courage to change, faith in doing the next right thing and confidence to be "daft as a brush!" I love it when my childish side comes out, that is the unfettered me. And this freedom is courtesy of twelve principles which help me live free one day at a time.
Of course, life can be bleak and unimaginably black. Heartbreak will do that to anyone. And sometimes it can be the worst of times, and the best of times all in one unexplainable day. To have this emotional repertoire can only come with experience. I don't believe wisdom is wasted on the old, because sometimes the wisdom of the old is the same as the wisdom of the young. I saw young people being taught how to be entrepreneurial and at the same time have a childhood with meaning. Unfettered free and able to let imagination create new ideas without the blocks humanity very often places on humans maturing.
Getting our freedom back in recovery, it opens the door to everything we have learned and everything we have feared. Moving out of fear, pride and ego; into courage to change, faith in doing the next right thing and confidence growing through experience. These are tricky times for anyone. And this is why Fellowship is so important, where we share experience, strength and hope and move into new living one day at a time.
Sometimes the chains which have fettered us in the past are difficult to break free. Alcohol used to make for good times and bad times, and very often made bad times tolerable and suppressed. However, the emptiness "the hole in the soul," is repaired. If we can move forward in an open honest and willing way, face our fears, which might be real, and there are consequences, a new life begins every day. Step ten and gratitude, step eleven, as you choose with your beliefs, reflection and meditation, and then sharing the message with step twelve, always helps ourselves and everyone.
